Why I built it
Hi, I'm Kyle, the person behind To Budget Simply.
I tried budgeting app after budgeting app, and every one left me with the same feeling: I didn't have a clear, accurate picture of where my money was going, or real control over where it needed to go. Most budgeting tools are so complex that the important answers get buried under screens, settings and features.
So one day I sat down and built my budget in a plain Excel spreadsheet, using my own simple method. It gave me what the apps never did: a precise view of my finances, plus the flexibility to adjust my plan whenever life changed.
To Budget Simply turns that same method into a free website, so you can get the same clarity and control without building the spreadsheet yourself.
The method: simple budgeting that stays flexible
- See what comes in. Record your income each month, including paychecks that repeat automatically.
- See where it goes. Track expenses by category and set a monthly budget for each one, so you can compare planned and actual spending at a glance.
- Know what's left over. Income minus expenses tells you exactly how much you have to work with.
- Give the leftover a job. Put it toward savings goals, and the app works out the monthly amount or the date you'll reach each one, and warns you if your goals ask for more than you have.
Everything is designed to be quick to update and easy to change, because a budget only works if you keep using it.
Free to use
To Budget Simply is free. Instead of charging a subscription, it will be supported by advertising, which keeps every core budgeting feature free for everyone.
Your data stays yours
You can download everything as Excel or JSON at any time, and deleting your account removes your data immediately. Your budget is never shared with or sold to advertisers. The free budget calculators run entirely in your browser, so nothing you type into them is sent to us.
